Hello, We Are hyphen!
hyphen is a non-profit organization that helps newcomers and expats
quickly adapt to the local life in San Francisco.
For newcomers or expats, lives are often affected or hindered by
language barriers, unfamiliarity with the new environment or
cultural differences. More interactions with locals help newcomers
adapt to local life quickly. Therefore, hyphen explores effective
ways to promote communication between locals and newcomers.

Our Mission
To help newcomers and expats adapt to local life
effectively in San Francisco, expand their social circles,
and enrich their quality of life.
Why Do We Do This?
As a culturally diverse and inclusive city,
it’s easy for newcomers and expats living
in San Francisco to get stuck in their
comfort zone.
San Francisco is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse American
cities. Overall, the city offers diversified as well as secluded neighborhoods
to people coming from different races and cultures. So, it is safe to say that there is something for everyone in San Francisco. However, the isolation between communities makes people of different cultures lose opportunities
to communicate and connect. People from abroad can easily live in their
own comfort zone, but their social circle will be limited.

Who Do We Help?
People from abroad over 18 years old who come to live
in San Francisco for the long-term.
